Uptime

A fast page that is offline is not fast. Uptime watches whether your site answers at all.

Free accounts watch 2 pages. Pro watches 20, every minute.

Outage checks never spend credits, on either plan.

What it watches

  • Is the page answering. Every minute on Pro.
  • Certificates about to expire. You are warned before the browser warning.
  • Domain names about to expire. The one nobody has a reminder for.
  • Heartbeats. For a job with no address to check, like a nightly backup. The job calls a URL we give it. If it stops calling, you hear about it.
  • Maintenance windows. Planned work stays quiet instead of paging you.

When something goes down

You get one email when it stops and one when it comes back. Not one per failed check.

A failure is always confirmed by a second check before you are told. A single timeout is not an outage, and treating it as one trains people to ignore alerts.

Redirects are followed, up to five, and each hop is checked for being safe to visit. A site that moved from http to https or added a www is not down.

Outage details

Every outage says what happened and what to check, in plain words rather than the raw error. "Not answering" on its own tells you nothing you did not already know.

A public status page

Every monitor can have a shareable status page, which is the same link you would send a client or put in a footer.
